Located at 144 Bleecker Street in NYC, the Bleecker Street Cinema was an art house movie theater. It became a landmark of Greenwich Village and an influential venue for filmmakers and cinemaphiles through its screenings of foreign and independent films. It closed in 1990, reopened as a gay adult theater for a short time afterward, then again briefly showed art films until closing for good in 1991. It was also one of the many locations in Desperately Seeking Susan - the movie theater where Dez worked as a projectionist. It's kind of the epitome of cool, especially in NYC during an entire time period which was the epitome of cool. We pay homage to all the long-gone, amazing art house theaters with this design which comes directly from an early Bleecker St. Cinema outdoor sign design.
